English Version
Transfusion medicine, like every medical specialty, carries its own risks. These risks must be recognized, correctly identified, and addressed with the aim of eliminating all known — and, where possible, even unknown — risks, or at least reducing them to a minimum. Some risks arise at the very beginning of the process, during the donation of blood and blood components, while others occur at the final stage, during transfusion administration, where they may manifest as post-transfusion reactions and complications. These may, among other measures, be prevented by appropriate transfusion indication, including the management of preoperative anaemia and the application of Patient Blood Management.
The aim of the conference is to discuss selected risks in greater detail, both from a theoretical perspective and through practical examples and case reports. A dedicated session will focus on selected medications taken by blood donors and whether, and what types of risks, they may pose to the donor or the recipient.
